I love this thought because life happens to us unexpectedly.  Changes come that transform life as we knew it.  Sometimes change comes in like a flood, tearing through our landscape, leaving us breathless in wonder at the suddenness with which our lives have just been irrevocably changed.   Sometimes the change comes slowly, creeping in steadily yet persistently, from long periods of rain.  Both types can reduce us to nothing and leave us wondering how to carry on.

But, we are never without resources to deal with change.  I like that the source of the resources can be as surprising as the change itself.  Miller hints at this when he says, “Life is constantly providing us with new funds, new resources, even when we are reduced to immobility.”   When I read this quote, I feel strength return to my spirit.  “I am not finished yet!” my heart cries.  “I am not stuck, frozen to this spot.  I will breathe and move again.   I will find my source and then  I will make this place a good place.”

I’ve known many friends recently whose landscape has been hit with floods, some which came suddenly and others which came slowly after months and years of unending rain.  To all of us I say, let’s go back to the Source.  Let’s find hope in the sun that’s shining for us today.  Let’s laugh with children.  Let’s sing with our favorite songs.  Let’s read encouraging books.  Let’s breathe deeply.  Let’s watch for people who are holding out hands of support, and grab on.  Let’s take time to be kind to ourselves so we can heal and live in this day.  Let’s take today for what it is, and find the joy in it  hidden like jewels  waiting to be found.   Even when we are reduced to immobility, there are new funds and new resources prepared for us.  Our assets, all our strengths, all we have to offer is still there.  We are not frozen.  We will live…and breathe…and move…again.
